What to Wear for Mommy & Me Pictures

Mommy & Me Sessions are such a special and fun way to be sure that you get in the frame with your little loves. I focus on making these sessions relaxed and candid by allowing time and space for fun games and sweet cuddles.

Styling plays a big part in not only the way your photos ultimately look and feel, but also in how you’re able to enjoy your session. Your outfits should allow you to move about comfortably so you can play, cuddle and tickle your sweet kiddos.

Below you’ll find some tips and outfit inspiration, as well as where you can look around at to shop in person and online.

Tips for styling your mommy & me session

  • Keep it simple. Don’t let deciding on outfits cause you so much stress & anxiety that you'll no longer be excited about showing up for these pictures that mean so very much to you. Instead, keep it simple by choosing your outfit first and then coordinating your kids outfits around yours. Choose something you truly feel relaxed and comfortable in. My Mommy & Me Sessions are not formal or posed, so please don’t look for outfits that are restrictive or uncomfortable. Instead choose outfits that you can get on the floor in easily, where you can cuddle and tickle and have kids climbing on you - because that’s very likely to happen, after all, they love to cuddle Mama.

  • Coordinate instead of being Matchy-Matchy. Everyone doesn’t need to wear the same tone, color or outfit, unless you’re doing a matching Mom & Daughter dress. But otherwise, choose tones, colors and textures that go well together without being too matchy.

  • Choose Neutrals & Soft Pastels. You can never go wrong with neutrals and soft, light pastels. They are classic, easy to coordinate with and look gorgeous photographed. Think whites, creams, soft blue and pink, soft sage. Textures that are lovely for photos are linen, cotton, knit.

  • Other tips: Wear neutral nails and toe nail colors. Bring a hair clip or tie in case you need to pull your hair away from your face at some point. Barefoot is always the way to go for mommy & me photos - trust me on this. If your outfit neckline is low, put a bralette or undershirt on that will keep your chest from getting too exposed if you bend over or are getting loved on a clingy baby.

Choose dresses that are midi or maxi length and flowy. If you’d like to go a bit more simple & modern, you can pair a shirt or sweater with light colored denim.

For Babies & Small Toddlers: Rompers, Onesies with Shorts or Bloomers work wonderfully. They allow baby to move without having to worry about a t-shirt riding up constantly.

For Older Toddlers & Kids - Dresses, shorts, comfy pants and shirts are the way to go. Just keep is soft, comfortable and relaxed so they’re comfortable for pictures.

Because my style is relaxed and candid I don’t fuss over children’s hair during pictures, so if your little one has hair that needs to be contained or falls in to their face easily, then plan to pull it back somehow so that you’re worrying about their hair the whole session.
